Item Slip Text Messages
In short: when you report a crime or crash to a sheriff's office or police department that uses Active BOLO, the officer may offer to send your item slip by text. You get a text only if you say yes and give the officer your mobile number. It is one text about your own report. We never use your number for marketing and never sell or share it. Reply STOP at any time to stop, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
1. What the texts are
An item slip is the receipt for a police report: the case or item number, the investigating officer, and when and where the report can be picked up. Active BOLO lets an officer give it to you on paper, by e-mail, as a QR code on the officer's screen, or by text message. The text links to your slip on activebolo.com, where you can also list stolen property if the report is a burglary or theft.
2. How you agree to get them
You agree in person, to the officer, during the call for service. After the report is taken, the officer asks:
"Would you like your item slip sent to you by text message? Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out."
Only if you say yes and give your mobile number does the officer send it, and only to the number you gave. Before the text can be sent, the officer must confirm in Active BOLO that you agreed; that confirmation is recorded with the slip, with the officer's name and the time. If you would rather not get a text, the officer can give you the slip on paper, by e-mail or as a QR code instead. Agreeing to a text is never a condition of making a report or getting help.
3. What a text looks like
Active BOLO for Example Parish Sheriff's Office: your item slip for Item Number K-11-26-0412. Keep it to get your report: https://activebolo.com/s/7KQ2M Reply STOP to opt out.
Every text names Active BOLO and the agency that took your report, and tells you how to stop.
4. How often
One text per report. You get another only if you ask the officer to send it again. There are no reminders, newsletters, promotions or recurring messages.
5. Stopping, and getting help
- Reply STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END or QUIT) to stop all texts from that number. You will get one reply confirming it, and nothing after that.
- Reply HELP for contact information, or e-mail hello@techthings.net.
- Questions about the report itself go to the agency that took it.
6. Cost
Active BOLO and the agency do not charge you for these texts. Message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
7. Your phone number
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your mobile number is used only to send your item slip. It is not sold, rented or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, and it is not used for anything else. The slip shows only the last four digits of the number it was sent to. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party, except the carriers and the texting provider (Twilio) needed to deliver the message. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
8. Who sends them
Texts are sent through Active BOLO, a law-enforcement software service of Tech Things, LLC, on behalf of the sheriff's office or police department that took your report. Tech Things, LLC · hello@techthings.net · activebolo.com
